My experience in July:
From BOM: Booked the ticket before the entry took effect, so could not put in my MP number. Asked that the number be put at registration. Pretty sure it did not work, as my status did not show up on the boarding pass. The agent seemed pretty clueless about how to put a FF number from a *A partner. At gate, no priority boarding of any kind.
From Bangalore: Registration desk has a lane for business and gold, but signage is not uniform (only the video screen shows *A gold). Received invitation to lounge. Boarding then happens and despite having a sign stating that *A will receive priority boarding, agent asks me to wait since they were just piling up people in the jetway. After 10 minutes, asked him exactly WHEN the "priority boarding" is supposed to take place. Then, he let me go. I remember saying a few words asking them to get informed about their policies.
But that is India. I was wrong to lose my cool. You just need to expect things not to work as they should there. Even spanking new airports have worn out carpets and flooded/stinky bathrooms (just see the new Chennai domestic facilities, open merely a few months ago, to understand what I am talking about).
