Although I will maintain the 1K mileage requirement, I will be far short of $10,000. At the rate I am going (3.5 cpm for 50,000 miles so far since tax is not included) I will qualify only for silver. I am sure United will be glad to be rid of me for having so many perks for paying so little.
But hold on... I will have a million miles by the end of the year. Me and mine will be gold for life. Then I plan to fly about 20,000 miles yearly, if that.
I think the timing will be good because the ranks of elite fliers will shrink dramatically giving less competition for upgrades even though I will be gold instead of 1K. When I was Premier Exec I had just as many upgrades as I have had as 1K the last 3 years.
I think the timing will be bad because starting March 2014, my miles will not accrue much. I will have lifetime status in a poor program.
Any thoughts - good or bad timing?
