Bonus Offer: 1K Miles per Marriott Stay (max 5) JUL23-OCT31. Terms Unclear.

Received an offer fro MileagePlus via email today. 1K MP per Marriott stay, max 5. Book by Sept 5, Stay by Oct 31.

However, the terms are very unclear. In the email, it says:
"Stay at select Marriott locations and earn Marriott Rewards® points or MileagePlus® miles for your stay — the choice is yours. Plus, whichever you earn, you’ll also receive an additional 1,000 MileagePlus bonus award miles with this exclusive offer for MileagePlus members."

The Terms and Conditions say:
"United MileagePlus members must be members of Marriott Rewards® and indicate United Airlines as their earning preference in order to qualify for this offer."

So which is it? It's otherwise a decent promo.
