AA cancelled booking with no notification [credit card rejection]

Dear all

I usually inhabit the BA board but I have a problem with an AA booking and am hoping for some advice.

I booked LHR-DFW-SAN and a return LAX-LHR in business class for my wife and I ~2 weeks ago, for travel next week. Fare about £3700 each - more than I usually pay but my fault as I left it late to book.

I get an email from AA confirming the purchase - tickets are marked as 'purchased'. No eticket numbers though. Selected seats etc, and assumed all was well.

I checked the reservation on AA today and saw it had been cancelled.

Called AA reservations. Apparently some issue with credit card not processing correctly so flights cancelled. Agent told me that an email was sent telling me there was a problem but I did not receive this - have checked junk & trash folders etc. No known issue with my email account (all other mails have been received normally)

Was offered to rebook flights but fare not £6200 per person. Agent was helpful but could not rebook at same fare as I had originally booked. Suggested I speak to customer services.

I accept that I am partly in the wrong if there was a credit card issue, but needless to say I am very disappointed that they did not make more of an effort to contact me in spite of having ALL my contact details. Even BA or Easyjet make an effort to call if there is any issue with a reservation.

My question for you all is - do I have any recourse with AA?
Or am I just wasting my breath?

Any suggestions will be welcome.

Thanks in advance!
