Agreed - today it is a non-issue. But the question was posed:
Had you known that the vouchers were good for only $50, what would you have done at the time?
If I had been in OP's position and I was offered a $50 voucher, I would have asked AA to evaluate other options (ie, other airlines, routings) that would get me back faster. A $50 voucher would not have even gotten me to think about staying two days.
