while the "tenant" is scum based on this report
Once again greed is the issue, not just airbnb's failings. This owner wanted the PRICES she could get for a weekly rental, but chose to rent to someone who booked it for 44 days. At 30 days, tenant protections come into play. If the owner wants the weekly type of rent she needs to just go with weekly or daily renters.
Airbnb 's problem is that their little notice that airbnb'ers must abide by all applicable laws doesn't disclose the specific laws for each state/city/.
California's 30 day law has been on the books for as long as I've been here (30+ years) so it behooves ANYONE renting out their space to know the law. Once the tenant is there for 30 days he/she is a tenant not a hotel guest. This wasn't a case where the owner booked it for a week and the guy stayed 44 days - he BOOKED for 44 days.
