I've long done the same, and my secondary is close to zero. I take a lot of wires and cables with me, so within my main carry on, I have one distinctive orange bag which has my cables, kindle and liquids in it, and another with computers, both on the top of the bag. So both can be swiftly removed, with liquids further extracted on to its own tray.

At Maui Airport (OGG), the TSA have a series of museum like displays explaining the various rules, and why they are in place. Here's the relevant one for this, showing the jumbled cables.
