Not a stupid question. My travel partner and I have been following the news on Israel/Hamas/Egypt/Islamic State the last month or so. I'm not planning on canceling my award flights or hotels right now but I don't know what's waiting for us 1 year later either.
I went to Egypt in 2010 just a few months before the big riots in Cairo and the removal of the president. We generally felt safe aside from all of the tourist sales scams that are very harassing. We were also both in our early 20's, so maybe a little young and dumb? We stayed in a private room in a hostel for 3 nights in Cairo and the 2nd night we did hear gun shots but never felt like our lives were in imminent danger. I've felt a lot more worried in Detroit/Flint that's for sure!
