Theres a big difference bet DT & HGI, usually DTs are High rises can be many stories. a HGI is usually no higher than 3 or 4 floors. A DT (there are 3 types) is a Hotel while HGI is a fancy Motel. Ive been at DTs that had 3-4 stories also- DTW, but thats a rare bird. Just as in Flastaff,Az the ES is Motel-like in look. Most DTs are full service hotels, I dont think any HGI has room service.
Then the question is whats the difference bet a DT and reg Hilton? This I havent figured out yet.
A few yrs ago Hilton purchased Promus Corp which was made up of Hampton, Embassy Suites and DT. There the distinction was easy to see. I think Hil still hasnt figured itself out since that purchase, and thats why they still have all this rebranding going on and no clear distinction bet their brands.
Bringing this thread back from the dead but...
Every HGI I've been to has had room service. I've only stayed in HGI's in New York and Montreal though so my sample size isn't exactly representative, but at least some HGI's do have room service.
