Yes, unfortunately flights from the West Coast to the islands are on some of the worst planes in DL's fleet. However, there are a few flights LAX-HNL that can be flat beds (767) or upgraded 757s (with personal IFE). Otherwise, as others have indicated, greatly lower your expectations.

It will take you no more than 10 minutes to change planes at LAX.

The highlight of your journey will be the JFK-LAX flight. That, and landing on the Big Island...
