Although nice locations, restaurants at Camps Bay and the Waterfront are geared primarily for tourists, so premium prices and mediocre food/service.

I would hire a driver and try out Moyo at the Spier Wine Estate out in Stellenbosch. Huge buffet of all the local cuisines and live entertainment. It's a little 'Disney does Africa' but worth it all the same. Also has a Cheetah Sanctuary there.

One thing I do remember about CPT is the lack of good fish restaurants there - though I was a student when I lived there so that sort thing wasn't the top of my agenda.

If you want a good steak then check out the Hussar Grills in Rondebosch/Green Point/Camps Bay. Observatory is a cool little spot to have a drink and they have the best Mexican restaurant on gods earth there, called Panchos. Lethal Margaritas too!
