It's not in a "bad" area of town by any means; we just found it to be terribly boring. It's in Pudong/Lujiazui, which is primarily a business district. The main attractions seem to be the skyscrapers that make up Shanghai's iconic skyline, but there just isn't much happening either during the day or at night. It felt sterile and empty to us. The hotels are fantastic and I'm sure that the location is great if you're doing business in Shanghai, but we found ourselves spending all of our time on the other side of the Huangpu River
Having said that, I'm fair from an expert on Shanghai--I'm sure there are other people in this thread far more qualified to give advice.
