It's not in a "bad" area of town by any means; we just found it to be terribly boring. It's in Pudong/Lujiazui, which is primarily a business district. The main attractions seem to be the skyscrapers that make up Shanghai's iconic skyline, but there just isn't much happening either during the day or at night. It felt sterile and empty to us. Having said that, I'm fair from an expert on Shanghai--I'm sure there are other people in this thread far more qualified to give advice.
