Is this a new policy? My gf downgraded late last year from DL Plat Amex to Blue with no problems.
Apologies if this has been already mentioned, but what I consider my "out" if they do not give me a decent offer for my platinum renewal (I got the 100k offer ~6 months ago but don't travel much - I bailed out of AMEX a few years ago after many years and this brought me back) is to get the senior gold. Premium roadside assistance (worth $95 a year or so rough comparison to AAA benefit, same as platinum, for only $55/year). No MR at all, but still saves from not needing AAA and I can use it at costco when necessary and wait for offers from AMEX to upgrade again.
