I was wondering if one can avoid the $10,000 minimum PQD requirement for 1K status by slowly accumulating 3 MM over time while spending under $10,000 per year.

In this scenario, a passenger who consistently travels 100,000 miles per year and has let's say 2.8 million lifetime miles, would relinquish 1K status for a period of 2 years due to spending less that $10,000 PQD. Yet upon reaching the 3MM lifetime miles level, they would requalify for 1K for life.

Would it be the case that a 3MM lifetime flyer will retain 1K status without the requirement to spend $10,000 PQD per year?
