Southwest uses a fairly transparent, cost-based system for redeeming miles. Take the cash price for the ticket. Subtract out the taxes. For a WGA fare, multiply the subtotal by 70 points/dollar. For AT fares you pay 100 points/dollar and for BS it's 120. So, obviously, you get the best value per point when WGA fares are available.
