I'll be booking for my mom as she wants to go HK in early November til end of November. She'll be departing from YVR to HKG.
When would be the best time to book her flight? It's 4 months away now and I'm curious if price will drop since I don't believe November is a busy season or peak season. And does AC usually have promotions for the month of November from YVR to HKG? And when should I start panicking?
She has a AMEX AeroplanPlus Gold card and she has at least 30k because of the bonuses. How many points would she need to be able to book a Y(Economy) ticket using just points? Or if she purchase her Y(Economy) ticket using cash, how many points would it take to upgrade her Y(Economy) ticket to J(Business)?
I've heard a lot of people say they're "flying with points" or "upgraded using points" and would like to know how the procedure works and an estimate of how much it would cost.
Thanks FT.
- there is a decent chance of a sale (often up to 30% off on Tango fares) between now and November. As you said, it is not peak season. But no guarantees that a sale will happen.
- You need 75,000 points for economy reward, but usually by now, the direct YVR-HKG reward flights are all gone.
- 150,000 points for business reward.
- Most of us refer to upgrading using "eupgrade" points. she would need to be an Aeroplan Altitude status member (frequent flier) on at least a flex fare to do this (and often with a copay).
