I agree, this would be very much frowned upon (in a polite but firm way).
For those with the money to burn, flying Suites with your friends or family is something that has got to be the ultimate.
I once was in R and a family of four: parents, plus two kids, were flying R too and they would enjoy their meals talking, joking and eating together in one of the center double Suites, facing each other as a large double table of four. The scene made me realize how you can still find true luxury and the "old romance of flight" on board.
