Should not be a problem at all... just make sure that there are two seats available on each flight, call into united and have them snag the segments at the same time. They will provide you with partner airline confirmation codes... then call each airline using the confirmation code and ask to have your seats assigned, provide them each of your names and ask them to seat you next to each other.
