On that note, it's worth noting that most trains are now non-smoking, but the older 700 series trains on the Tokaido Shinkansen have smoking cars where you can smoke at your seat. The other Shinkansen trains are generally non-smoking now, but still often have a small "gas chamber" on board where you can go for a quick fix. (Many office buildings have these as well.)

Not sure how cool it would be to consume a Monty #2 while riding to Kyoto, but I would be tempted.
