Does anyone have any experience with intl to intl transfers at PEK?

I usually hub through HKG or NRT for my TPAC flights originating in SIN but for my next trip to Canada (SIN-YEG) I've been put on CA to PEK and then on to the AC flight to YVR. My Partner has travelled on China Southern and China Eastern a couple of times in the past two years to YVR and LAX and reported that in every one of her transfers at Shanghai and Guangzhou the line up at immigration was 2.5 hours.

I've just checked the Beijing Capital Airport website and they report the minimum international to international connection time (MCT) is 1-2 hours depending on whether there is a 'domestic stopover' or a transfer from T3 to T2.

Spending 2 hours in a Chinese immigration line for what should be a sterile transfer is not my idea of fun, and if this is the fact on the ground, then I'm inclined to change my flight (alternative option is EVA via TPE).
