This was DL, flying SLC-HNL on the $37 one way mistake F fares.
They're oversold, and I'm getting rerouted SLC-SEA-HNL in F for a voucher. Guy next to me is also volunteering, and he's getting sent through LAX in Y.
He starts gloating about how he bought this mistake fare, and now he's making money off of it and how he's taking DL to the cleaners.
Granted, I was thinking the same thing, but was not about to say anything of the sort in front of the agents.
Agent says to him, "You're lucky that you got in on this fare, but I think you messed up." He asks why. GA said, "You should have done like this guy (pointing at me) and bought First Class -- it was the same price."
I just started laughing. The GA must have seen my fare in the reissue.
If that other customer had just taken his bump nice and quietly (like me), nobody would have put him in his place, and he would have been none the wiser to his screw up.
