Why does the OP have no recourse against someone doing precisely the same thing? AA should just refund the 50k miles and be done with it. Change the passwords, remove the cc info and move on.
If someone enters my house, using a key I provided and forgot to get back, and steals my TV while they are there I do not expect Sony to give me a new TV...
Miles have been consumed, a flight has been taken, AA are quite rightly not going to walk away holding the loss.
