I'm not suggesting that the OP was willfully fraudulent here, but think about the precedent here if AA were to refund the OP the miles for the used portion of the ticket?

Anyone could book a ticket for someone else, pay with that persons card, then claim fraud and get miles back? Essentially traveling for free? Forget it. AA should not refund the ticket. Its each account holder's responsibility to manage access to their account.
