We have an uncoming 5 wk award trip to Europe for 3 of us. We purchased travel insurance directly from Allianz by phone. they have coverage for medical care, medical evac, Baggage delay, change fee, trip interruption etc. trip delay , missed connections etc etc.
They also cover fees that occur if you cancel your trip and want the miles put back in your acct. We added up all costs we paid out of pocket ahead of time. ( train tickets purchased online,castle tours , deposits an 2 hotels and taxes/fees/fuel chgs on award tickets) to date (prior to travel) and that's
what they based the policy cost on. approx. 6,000 in paid ahead cost us around 550 dollars. We have used them in our last 3 trips to Europe and like the piece of mind of having some kind of insurance and help phone numbers if something comes up, lost stolen passport, flight delay, lost baggage, or one of us gets very ill overseas.
