Exactly. And you might be able to do that on miles ... so it'd be low cost for the linking flight.

Some will advise back-to-backing the flights (e.g. coming out on the same plane that you're about to get on) ... others would suggest allowing a gap in case of problems.

The issue with back to back can be hold luggage - if you check it in - they are unlikely to check it from LHR-CDG-LHR-YYC. So you'd have to allow time to collect it and re-check it in CDG. If you can travel hand luggage only - back to back is easier.
