Had the same sides (cake on side plate with two kinds of cheese - and a little bit of fruit) on LAS-DTW. Salmon salad was an option but I went with a calzone. It wasn't bad and was hot, which was nice. I suspect you can get these meals now on flights over 1500 miles. The lunch/dinner options on shorter flights still is lacking - seems to be a lot of sandwich options or salads with cold chicken, etc.
