QR determines that, not QF, so you might try asking QR directly. Generally checkin opens 3 or at most 4 hours before departure time at outstations. Note that QR allows online checkin for most of their flights (including all departures from Australia) which might help. Some airlines such as QF will allow earlier checkin when flying F.
