Got admonished by Immigration Officer for lack of address
Yesterday, I landed at IAD on my way to Denver, CO, to start a 4 weeks road trip adventure.
At immigration I got admonished (after all was cleared anyway) for putting "touring Colorado" in the space for a street address. I have done something similar before. APIS is totally fine with this sort of indication, ESTA requires no address or even flight no (although you can put it in, if you like). So the adventure of simply picking up a car and going somewhere is now less simple?
Is this for real? Did anyone else experience the same? And if it is for real, why not require it earlier in the process (APIS, fx)?
I don't like to book the first night's hotel, because I am typically heading away from the airport, and how far I want to drive on that first afternoon/evening depends on how I feel on the day.
I don't like being scolded like a child, but I was still on a high from my first ever upgrade into business class on my transatlantic :-)
