Something that is 95% reliable is fine as long as we don't mind suffering the consequences of a 5% failure rate.

The first couple of times I did have a paper backup, but I don't see the need anymore. Paper can fail as well. It can be lost, and more than once I've been behind someone whose paper boarding pass was so folded/mangled that it would't scan. (I will admit that, at least in those cases, the GA still lets the person board, while they set it aside and/or enter manually… something not possible with the mobile BP.)
I suppose the first time I get burned I'll feel differently, but for now the mobile BP seems to work reliably for me.
