Thanks.. This question often crops up in my mind ... I thought there would be some written/unwritten norm somewhere which I could refer to ...

Right now though I was actually considering 2 flights:

CX870 - HKG 1410 SFO 1145 (Flight Duration 12 hours)
CX831 - JFK 1455 HKG 1850 (+1) (Flight Duration 16 hours)

and yes, I am looking at economy class
