The wifi on my last flight (an A320) was in operative, but on previous flights (not including PS) the wifi has only ever become connected after 10K feet, at least, it seems to usually take about 20 mins after take-off.

My understanding is that with the exception of the GoGo equipped PS planes, the rest of the fleet is begin outfitted with satellite connections. Is there a reason it does not work below 10K feet, the DTV seems to work fine on the ground. Is it a "safety" issue? Is gate-to-gate wifi ever going to be an option in the future?
