Of course the property could have done something about it, but chose not to. Maybe pointing out the outrageous cleaning fees they could have imposed would have gotten them to move.

Since you tried to get the property to act, feel free to escalate to corporate as Marriott has a company-wide no smoking policy. Being your stay ended quite some time ago, I wouldn't expect much from MI, but will help others in the future.

Just be happy you weren't in VA!
