If you keep the same origin and destination, there is no change fee.

So for example if you are flying to Germany and AB is avail, book it as ORD-TXL-FRA. If US PHL-FRA becomes avail, then changing to ORD-PHL-FRA does not cost anything.

AB seat is not that great. Although US product is older, I think it would still be on par.
