Charlotte without a doubt. CLT is a great airport for connecting, immigration is very quick and easy. Also if you go via CLT you will arrive in Fort Myers early than if you go via Philadelphia, as your CLT-RSW would depart at 4:30pm rather than 6:00pm. PHL is horrible- A-west is very nice but the rest of the airport is... just yuck! I can't stand PHL, but that may just be my opinion.
Plus you could have me as an F/A is you fly via CLT.
How is the CLT immigration during int'l "rush hour"? I have only arrived on the GIG flight in the morning when it is totally empty. The immigration area is much smaller than PHL so it might not be much better.
PHL horrible? I guess you have never been to LGA or EWR? Yes people might be friendlier and walks might be shorter in CLT but in terms of cleanliness, places to eat/drink/shop during a layover there is not much difference.
