Personally, I will reserve my judgement until I try the seat and decide for myself if it is OK or not. There are still other aspects of CE to consider, for instance, most importantly (for me) the empty middle seat.
I don't know if I would agree with your comment about 'pack mentality', assuming that the 1522 votes are genuine.
But the phrasing of the question is somewhat leading, a little on the lines of "Would you save the lives of half the population or let 50% die?"
