Can I change my Gold card to another (No Fee)Amex card and it still be the same account? I don't want my credit report to take a hit for a closed account. I also have the Delta Amex card. Member since 86.
Call up customer service and ask if a product change is possible, but sporadic reports that I can find around the web say it may be impossible to change a charge card to a credit card without starting a new account.
Also of interest might to you might be the fact that Amex sometimes backdates opening date of a new line to match the earliest. You might want to get a free credit report and check if your Delta card is also being reported as being opened in 86. In that case, the hit wouldn't be so bad for closing the Gold.
