This happened a few years ago.
We were supposed to fly STL-DFW-HNL in F with HNL-LIH on a seperate HA PNR. The flight to DFW gets cancelled, so the STL AAngels manage to rebook us on ORD-HNL, in seats that aren't adjacent. We get on the plane to ORD, and a thunderstorm hits STL, so we sit on the tarmac for an hour until it stops lightening. I'm beginning to worry we're not going to make our HNL flight, at this point.
We land in ORD and make way to the AC, where we start chatting with one of the AAngels. We mention our seats aren't next to each other and she says, "Let me see what I can do about that...". So, she pulls up the manifest and starts cross referencing the names of pax in F against AC membership. She finds a guy flying by himself, calls him up and asks him if he'd swap seats with us. He's cool with that and we're good. Huge props for that AAngel, she went above and beyond to do something she didn't have to do. That was also save #2 for them that day.
So, we finally get to LIH and we're waiting for our bags. No bags. I figured with all the flight changes and the fact that we were on a seperate PNR with the HA flight, they probably got lost somewhere. At this point in the day, I was just happy to be there so I didn't really care. I file the lost bag report, we start to walk out of the baggage area, and my gf spots her Pepto Bismol pink suitcase going around the carousel. The staff in STL had managed to redirect our bags STL-LAX-LIH in order to meet us. Save #3.
The day was a nightmare that ultimately ended up a success and reinforced two things for me. #1, why AC memberships(and more specifically, AAngels) are invaluable and #2, why I fly AA.
