That's sort of true... There's another thread which talks about a flight something like LHR-IAD-DFW. LHR-IAD is on BA and IAD-DFW on AA. The YQ you're charges is the same as if you flew LHR-DFW nonstop on BA.
AA does not assess charges on the IAD-DFW. The surcharges for all LHR-USA routes simply happen to be the same, whether LHR-BOS or LHR-LAX.
