Why do you have to drag EK into every discussion... let the politicians work that out.
You have a complete failure to understand why I brought it up, which is why you make the false claim at the end. So I will repeat it for you.

AC is on record on this forum saying that the reason we can't have EK is that they provide no "net benefit to Canadians."

Allowing more competition from EK would mean more capacity to more destinations and price competition which would make AC lower ticket prices, which benefits all flyers (i.e. net benefit to Canadians).

However in this case, AC is not going to lower ticket prices by eliminating staff positions. They are just going to cut jobs to improve their bottom line. Eliminating Canadian jobs and not lowering ticket prices shows no net benefit to Canadians.

THEREFORE this action is hypocritical in contrast to their claimed reason that they don't want EK to be allowed more landing slots.

On the one hand, waving the flag for all Canadians in our defense, thinking of our best interest, vs. EK (though patently wrong on the basis of their claim). While their own action, when they have opportunities to act and show a net benefit to Canadians, are entirely self interested.

If someone else takes a step in the race to the bottom, they are not interested in examining, "is there a net benefit to Canadians if we do the same thing?" ... not at all. Instead they say, "is there a net benefit to our bottom line if we match this erosion of services?" That is the ONLY question they ask. Fair enough, they are a corp. I understand it, and I've said it before when talking about EK (which somehow you have missed, instead you just absorbed some soreness for EK being mentioned, which means to me you're not actually reading the content but instead registering an emotional reaction).

So I don't mind them acting like a completely self-interested greedy machine. That's the definition of a corporation. What I mind is that when the self-interested greedy corporate machine suddenly claims to be a flag waving patriotic "we wuv u!" Canadian citizen along with the rest of us, looking out for OUR best interests when it comes to EK. Because that is not what they are and not how they operate. It is just a convenient position to take in order to do what they want to do:

Protect the bottom line.

And if they just came out and said that in their anti-EK arguments in an honest way, they know there would be no hope in hell that enough Canadians would jump to their defense. So, it's your basic political manipulation message to keep what is purely a business goal in a political arena to hope that they can achieve unfair protection from our government.

Because you know, they don't like unfair actions from governments when they protect airlines. Other airlines that is. Everything that our government does that protects them is fair.
