I think all the ideas put forward here are pretty reasonable but we still don't have an answer. Right now all I know is united wasn't following it's published policy in ordering the standby list for this occasion. Was this a one off error or a warning that the published policy and practical application differ? Again no way to answer that question unless others have noticed other strange happenings too.
