I always know I have the flag because when I go to check in online (or use OLCI to re-check-in), united.com says "hey, your flight has been interrupted, please click here to explore options" and it offers to let me change onto flights today/tomorrow/day after tomorrow for free.
I'm highly unconvinced that the one has to do with the other.
I've been a plain old revenue standby and it sure did seem like I leapfrogged displaced passengers. I think prioritization for displaced passengers really may be dead.
