Indeed the dates are important. If it is during everyone's Winter Break, then grab what you can now. Not only are fares not likely to drop, but with events in the Middle East heating up, and fuel costs at the mercy of world events, fares may even rise drastically.

Now if you're traveling in early January, maybe it would be a bit different.
