I'm about to book a family vacation to Fiji on NZ56 (772) and 57 (77W), and I'm wondering what upgrade options I have as GE (earned from longhauls and domestic flights--I have never flown shorthaul with NZ).

Here are my questions:

1. Is Works Deluxe on these flights automatically PE? Or are they allocated based on status?
2. Can I (and my family) get PE seats on a Seat+Bag fare solely with my GE status?
3. Can I use my shorthaul RU + elite airpoints upgrade to upgrade all three of us to C? I don't really think 500 Airpoints for 3 hours in C is a good way to spend them, but I'd like to know if this is an option.
4. Is Skycouch an option on the 77W on this route? We have a two-year old so it would be perfect.
5. What would be the booking/upgrade scenario with the highest benefit:cost ratio?

Thanks to whoever takes the time to answer them!
To answer your questions

1. Works Deluxe is either sitting in the Premium Economy cabin on 777-300 aircraft or in the premium economy cabin on the 777-200 with the middle seat blocked and the same goes for the 767 and 777-200 economy where works deluxe is economy with the middle seat blocked. Every flights seating arrangement is different and if they have 20 people who have booked W Deluxe then the nz flight manager/dispatcher will move seats around to make sure this happens. Works Deluxe is never based on Status due to this reason stated above

2. Normally a small number of seats in the Premium Economy cabin are flagged for gold or the equivalent status

See these seat maps for more info

777-300 - http://www.ausbt.com.au/photos/view/...54-777-300.png
777-200 - http://www.ausbt.com.au/photos/view/...54-777-200.png

In the seat maps refer to the colours below
green seats are the Preferred category
pink seats are the Bassinet bulkheads
orange seats are Exit Row seats
purple seats fall into the "middle-seat-free economy" Works Deluxe package
blue seats are what remains for top-tier frequent flyers

If your eligible for the Preferred seats which are in blue then you can select them online
Preferred seats are given to VA Gold and higher, NZ Gold and higher and *A Gold only

3. If you have the appreciate upgrade and rec vouchers + airpoints you may be able to upgrade but remember it is done on a first in first served basis

4. Yes you could if you are eligible to select seats in the sky couch area then technically you could use it just look at your seat select page to see if you have access to the skycouch area as seen on the 777-300 seat map in blue

5. I can't really answer that unless you say how much you paid/your booking class
