Quite a few merchants now offer SMART$ instead of UNI$, which can be a pain. Epicentre, Best Denki, etc. By using Imagine as a proxy you can get around this issue. And if you have a couple cards you can also get around the <$1k issue by just dividing a purchase between a few Imagine cards if need be.
The website on SMART$ says that it doesn't apply to UOB PrviMiles and UOB PPV. So this is not an issue.

Only issue perhaps is with the UOB card for dining e.g. in coffee bean may be earning SMART$ rebates instead of 4 miles.
