To clarify, what matters is the class(es) you trying to upgrade to. If there is a segment where you're upgrading to BusinessFirst or Business from Y then the instrument is only used if one of those segments clear (regardless of whether the [domestic] First segments clear). In this case since you have all First upgrades the UG is used as soon as one flight clears. Someone else can answer better about taking back a cleared instrument, you may be able to a few days before the flight.

I suspected as much, but it couldnt hurt to ask. I am pretty sure that the instrument isnt USED until the flight, so I should be able to pull it back before flying if they R me into the short flight and the long one doesnt clear. Will report results on diditclear one way or the other
