ALSO, if you're just looking for a larger room, in our experience an upgrade to the Corner King has often been available as a free diamond upgrade. It is a lovely room, and quite large, but a bit dark with windows looking out only at the Red Cross building (it's not a hospital, but their Kyoto blood donor headquarters) next door, and it is all the way at the end of the annex. After getting the Corner King several times, we told them not to bother; we only stay one night at a time and don't need the extra space, so we prefer a standard room with more light and overlooking the garden.
