The e-standby's will only give you a chance for an upgrade at check-in. So if the hotel is full it won't do a thing for you.

An e-standby is nothing more than you making a statement that you are willing to pay something for a possible upgrade. For a property better than upgrading someone for free, but even better for them to sell at the full rates....
