When the train is crowded, they will encourage you to put big luggage (i.e. much larger than carryon) on the belt for retrieval at the main baggage claim. Also, if you are using a luggage cart, they will not let you take that on the train.

But, usually you can just roll it onto the train and then up the escalators and out the door.
