Will a plastic bottle of Coke burst in my checked luggage?
What about a can? I don't think the can would. I don't trust the plastic bottles.
I'm not the kind of guy to carry Coke with me in my checked luggage everywhere I go. It's heavy and you can buy Coke anywhere. But last week I was checking out of a hotel, where I had put a perfectly good and unused 20 oz bottle of Coke that I had not gotten around to drinking. I didn't feel like drinking it then (it was 9 a.m.). I couldn't take it through security in my hand luggage obviously. So I wanted to out in in my checked luggage. but I was afraid it would explode and I'd have sugar and syrup stained clothes for the rest of my trip. I left it in the hotel minibar. It's probably gone by now.
Should I have just stashed it in my checked luggage? Would that have been safe?
Maybe one of you scientists could just give me a list of common household items that will burst in checked luggage when placed in an unpressurized luggage hold. I would appreciate that.
