Is it just me or are BA increasingly departing early and before advertised gate closing times?

My LGW-JER flight on Wednesday left so early that we were in the air by the gate closing time! I assumed that they knew all passengers who had passed security were on board. Perhaps not.

I would have been very annoyed to arrive at the gate (on time according to BP) only to watch my plane fly by. It hardly helps that at airports such as LGW the departure screens in the lounges are programmed to show Go To Gate, Boarding and Closing based on set intervals before scheduled departure time rather than reality.

On many occasions I have rushed to the gate when Closing shows to find nothing happening and a lengthy wait for boarding. Sometimes the inbound plane hasn't even arrived. Are we now to add to this planes having departed whilst Boarding or even just Go To Gate is still showing?
